2026학년도 1학기 Academic English 수강신청 관련 안내

• “신입생 영어능력 평가고사”가 폐지됨에 따라, 2024학년도 2학기 이후 신입생부터 자율적으로 분반 난이도를 선택하여(초급, 중급 중 택1) 

  직접 수강 신청하여야 합니다.

• 단, 개강 첫 주 각 분반 담당 교수자의 판단하에 해당 분반 수준(초급/중급)에 맞지 않는 학생이 있을 경우,

교수자가 해당 학생에게 분반 변경 요청을 할 수 있으며, 그 상황에 해당하는 학생은 수강 신청 정정기간에 직접 분반을 변경해야 합니다.

• 면제 기준(고급 수준)에 해당하는 공인 영어 성적을 입학하는 당해 학기 개강 전 학부대학행정팀에 메일로 제출한 학생은

(제출처: geedcredu@korea.ac.kr) Academic English I 이수가 면제되며,

이에 따른 부족 학점은 본인 졸업 요건에 맞춰 교양이나 전공으로 이수해야 합니다.

(단, 입학하는 당해 학기 개강일 직전까지 제출한 경우에 한하며, 이후 제출 및 면제는 불가함)

※각 소속 학과(부)의 졸업요구조건 관련 공인영어성적 제출과는 별도로 운영되는 것임

※고급 면제 기준

※ TOEFL iBT의 경우, 점수 체계 개편으로 인해 기존의 0- 120점 점수 기준은 2026년 1월 21일 이전에 응시한 TOEFL 시험에만 적용됨. 

    이후 응시한 경우, *새 점수(1–6)와 기존 점수(0–120)를 2028년 1월까지 병기 제공한다고 함

※중급 분반 권장 기준

(해당 기준은 수강 신청 시, 중급 또는 초급 분반을 자율 선택하는 데 도움이 되도록 하는 권장 기준일 뿐, 별도 증빙 파일 제출은 필요 없음)

• 2026학번 신입생들은 IFLS800 Academic English I을 1학년 1학기 또는 2학기에 수강 권장하며, 졸업 전까지 필수로 이수해야 합니다.

• 2023학번을 포함한 이전 학번 재학생들은 IFLS800 Academic English I과 IFLS801 Academic English II를 순차적으로 수강해야 합니다.

(반드시 Academic English I을 이수한 다음에 Academic English II를 수강할 수 있음)

• 2012학번부터 Academic English I, II 최초 수강은 정규학기에만 가능합니다.

(계절학기 수강은 재수강인 경우에만 가능하며, 최초 수강은 불가함)

• 2026학년도 2학기 신입생이 아닌 재학생 재수강/미이수자는 반드시 “재수강/미이수자 분반”에 수강 신청하여야 합니다.

• 내국인 편입생의 경우는 “재수강/미이수자 중급 분반”으로 직접 수강 신청하여야 합니다.

• 기존에 신입생 영어능력 평가고사를 응시하지 않았었던 재학생들은 재수강/미이수자 중급 또는 초급 분반을 자율 선택하여 수강하면 되며, 

  위의 중급 분반 권장 기준을 참고 부탁드립니다.

• 단, 기존에 신입생 영어능력 평가고사를 응시하였던 학생들의 경우, 해당 등급의 분반에 직접 수강 신청해야 합니다.

• 체육특기자 및 의과대학 분반은 따로 운영합니다.

2026 Spring Semester – Academic English Course Registration Guide

• Following the abolition of the “Online English Proficiency Test for Freshmen,” students admitted from Fall 2024 onward must independently select one of the two class levels (Foundation or Intermediate) and register accordingly.

• During the first week of the semester, if the instructor determines that a student’s proficiency level does not match the level of the enrolled section (Foundation or Intermediate), the instructor may request the student to change sections. In such cases, the student must change sections personally during the course add/drop period.

• Students who submit an official English proficiency test score that meets the advanced-level exemption criteria to the University College Administration Team via email (geedcredu@korea.ac.kr) before the start of their admission semester will be exempt from taking Academic English I.

(Scores submitted after the start of the semester will not be accepted, and exemptions cannot be granted thereafter.)

• Any credits waived as a result of this exemption must be fulfilled through general education or major courses in accordance with the student’s graduation requirements.

※ This exemption policy is operated separately from the submission of certified English proficiency test scores required by the student’s home department for graduation purposes.

※ Criteria for Advanced-Level Exemption

※ For TOEFL iBT, the 0–120 score scale applies only to tests taken before January 21, 2026. For tests taken on or after this date, both the new score (1–6) and the previous score scale (0–120) will be reported until January 2028.

※ Recommended Criteria for Intermediate-Level Class Placement

(These criteria are provided solely as a guideline to assist students in choosing between Intermediate- or Foundation-level classes during course registration. No additional documents or proof are required.)

• Students admitted in 2026 are recommended to take IFLS800 Academic English I in either their first or second semester of their freshman year, and are required to complete the course prior to graduation.

• Students admitted in or before 2023 must complete IFLS800 Academic English I and IFLS801 Academic English II sequentially.

(Academic English II may only be taken after successfully completing Academic English I.)

• For students admitted from the 2012 cohort onward, first-time enrollment in Academic English I and II is permitted only during regular semesters.

(Enrollment in summer or winter sessions is allowed only for retake purposes; first-time enrollment during seasonal sessions is not permitted.)

• Except for freshmen admitted in Fall 2026, students who need to retake or who have not yet completed the required courses must register for the designated “Retake/Incomplete” class sections.

• Korean-national transfer students must directly register for the “Intermediate-level Retake/Incomplete” section.

• Students who did not take the “Online English Proficiency Test for Freshmen” at the time of admission may freely choose between the Foundation-level or Intermediate-level Retake/Incomplete sections. Please refer to the recommended criteria for the Intermediate level when selecting a section.

• However, students who previously took the “Online English Proficiency Test for Freshmen” must register for the class section corresponding to their assigned level.

• Please note that separate class sections are designated for student-athletes and medical students.
